Adults


In 2009 there were 206,000 adults of working age in Southwark, just over 72% of the population, which is higher than London (67%) or England (62%). By 2020 numbers are expected to have increased to 247,000, an increase of approximately 13%. According to 2007 ethnicity estimates 51.7% of Southwark's adults are 'White British', a smaller proportion than London (55.9%) or England (81.8%). All 'White' ethnicities make up 65.6% of the adult population, 'Black' ethnicities make up 19% of adults, 11.9% of this group are 'Black African,' broadly in line with proportion in London (10.5%) and considerably higher than England (3.1%).
