Learning disability


Population of adults with learning disabilities

There are estimated to be approximately 707 to 809 adults with moderate/severe learning disabilities and 776 adults receiving social care (Source: Adults with learning disabilities JSNA). On GP registers, there are 555 people aged over 18 in Southwark who are recorded on a disability register, which is 0.22% of the practices population (Source: QOF 09/10). This proportion is among the lowest among the inner London Primary Care Trusts. For more information click here.


Adults with learning disabilities in employment

Data for 2009-10 suggests that 16.8% of adults with learning disabilities known to Southwark Borough Council were in some form of paid employment at the time of their assessment or latest review. This figure is higher than any other inner London borough and is more than double the rates for London (8.3%) and England (6.4%). For further information click here.


Adults with learning disabilities in settled accommodation

Provisional data for 2009-10 suggests that 29% of adults with learning disabilities known to Southwark Borough Council were in settled accommodation at the time of their assessment or latest review. This figure is lower than any other inner London borough and is half the rates for London (59%) and England (61%). For further information click here.
